Solved! Found [this post](https://forum.gitea.com/t/location-of-gitea-html-page-source-and-other-site-assets/1898/6) which walked through how to solve the issue.

For anyone else - ensure your SVG files are in /var/lib/gitea/custom/public/assets/img/! (mkdir if needed 🙂 )
